12 Pots of Gold Drum Frenzy Slot Review – Play Demo, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Some slots blow you away within the first 10 plays. Others take time. 12 Pots of Gold Drum Frenzy is somewhere in the middle. That’s probably the most honest description of where I’d begin. I’ve been playing games from Gameburger Studios since their 9 Masks of Fire, which I mentioned earlier. When epic strike appeared to Work, land a bunch of scatter Symbols anywhere, climb a prize ladder, collect. Easy, fun, somewhat addicting. Ever since then, the studio has turned that concept into masks, pots, diamonds, carnival drums and virtually everything else that could fit on a reel. Therefore, when 12 Pots of Gold Drum Frenzy appeared in my lobby, my first thought was a half-smile and a shrug.

This again. After that, I spent a couple of hundred spins in demo mode and subsequently a real-money session. At that point my opinion had gotten a lot more complicated. That’s what this review is about. We’ll explore the numbers, the Paytable, every bonus feature, how many rtp versions casinos can select from, and whether this game is worth your time and money. Get yourself a cup of coffee (or pour yourself a pint, as the theme suggests) and let’s dive in.

A little background information (for good reason)

It is impossible to evaluate this game correctly without understanding where this game originated. Please hang tight for a minute. Gameburger Studios has existed since 2019 and their breakout hit was 9 Masks of Fire. That game established the scatter prize ladder as famous: the more epic strike Symbols you can find the greater the fixed prize. The Irish remake of that game, 9 Pots of Gold, replaced the Aztec mask with pots and leprechauns and performed well enough.

Next came spin-off releases such as 9 Pots of Gold King Millions and after that the drum branch: 12 Pots of Gold Drums, 12 Masks of Fire Drums, Carnaval Drums and Hyper Strike Diamond Drums. Drum frenzy is the latest addition to the family tree and is mechanically nearly indistinguishable from 12 Masks of Fire Drum Frenzy. I’m stating that directly because some players may feel that the reuse is poor quality or dishonestly presented. However, a reskin does not automatically mean poor quality. Many people have a favorite local BAR/restaurant that uses a menu that remains unchanged for years; and yet still continue to visit.

So what changed from 12 Pots of Gold Drums? Gameburger reduced the volatility to medium, increased the maximum win above 5000x, elevated the highest prize available via the Epic Strike Tower to 4000x, and created a brand-new type of symbol called epic strike cash symbol that contributes additional value to tower prizes. In theory, that is a friendlier version of the game with a larger ceiling. Practically speaking, it generally performs equally well.

How does the game look and sound?

I want to address visuals next because you’re likely looking at this screen for hours. The reels are positioned off-center on the right side of the screen with an extremely psychedelic-looking green background. Two pieces of rainbow are visible through the background on both sides of the reels. On the left side are two leprechauns hammering away at two separate drums. The purple one represents the jumbo drum feature and the green one represents the cash drum feature. Above them is the Epic Strike Tower display with the 4000x prize at the very top like a carrot dangled in front of a mule. It is cute. It’s not lovely. Animation is minimalistic, and the Symbols look fairly dull.

And if you’ve played some of the other drum games before you’ll instantly recognize much of the art used in this game. In fairness i believe the moving background is an improvement upon the plain green found in the last version, and there’s a subtle sparkle effect added to winning combinations making even smaller victories slightly more enjoyable than they should be. The soundtrack is bright Irish traditional music similar to something you would hear in a busy pub on a Friday evening. While upbeat it never becomes annoyingly so; that’s high praise for slot music. I listened to the audio throughout my entire playthrough and never needed to reach for the mute button.

Wins are achieved using the Paytable & Symbols

The base game is as simple as possible. three or more identical Symbols appearing consecutively on one of twenty lines will award you a win. All wins occur from left to right (starting from reel number one). Due to a win frequency of approximately thirty-three percent (meaning One-in-three times), roughly every third spin results in some sort of payout. For obvious reasons, most payouts are small; however, those wins help keep your account rolling until features happen.

Symbols fall into two categories:

Low-paying Symbols

Those represent Irish elements: BAR, clovers, hats worn by leprechauns and harps. five-of-a-kind awards anywhere between $1.20 and $3 based on your wager amount. You’ll see these constantly.

Wild mushroom

The Wild symbol appears as a red-and-white-spotted mushroom originating from a storybook. The Wild replaces all non-scatter/Wild Symbols in the base game and awards the same as three seven’s do when forming its own line. Although it cannot replace epic strike and bonus Symbols in their respective ways, it does have another role (as explained below) that is far more important than its line-payout.

Features explained individually

As we proceed through this review of 12 Pots of Gold Drum Frenzy slot, we’ll discuss all five moving components individually. The five include: the Epic Strike Tower; tower bonus; bonus spins; three drum features; win booster; and sometimes how they interact with one another, creating confusion. Allow it twenty minutes, and eventually you will understand.

12 Pots of Gold Drum Frenzy

Epic strike tower: still top dog

Epic strike Symbols only show up in the base game, serve as scatters (so position doesn’t matter), and reward you immediately after three or more appear. The tower begins at 1x for three Symbols climbing upwards with every extra symbol you find all-the-way up to 4000x for twelve. In reality you’ll usually find three-five; Six-seven make your heart beat slightly faster; i won eight Symbols during my demo session and honestly shouted “come on” out loud on a quiet train carriage while traveling alone.

The woman sitting across from me was not pleased with my behavior. The new element in this game are the Epic Strike Cash Symbols. Occasionally an epic strike symbol will appear carrying an additional cash-value ranging from 100% to 250% of your bet. If One of these appears when your tower activates that cash-value will be added onto your total prize. It’s a minor modification but turns occasional three-symbol activations into something viable. Something long-time fans will remember: hitting nine epic strike Symbols rewards significantly less here than it did in 9 pots of gold due to gameburger spreading out the ladder to twelve instead of nine so mid-range prizes were thinned-out substantially. If you enjoyed punchingy nine-symbol wins in older games lower your expectations accordingly.

Tower bonus: because every Wild counts!

Do you recall what happened when wilds showed up on-screen? Every time a Wild shows up on-screen in the base game, there is a possibility it will randomly activate tower bonus. The more wilds show up on-screen the greater your likelihood of activation.

Tower bonus gives you One-of-three options when activated:

  • Cash prize between 5x and 4000x your bet
  • Round of free spins
  • One of the three drum features

Honestly, I love this feature as it gives wilds genuine tension – especially considering how frequently wilds show up on-screen – turning any full-screen of mushrooms into potentially being a ticket to instant riches rather than simply finding five matching icons on a reel.

Bonus spins: an eight-level climb

And finally we have our major bonus round – which operates completely differently from standard free-spins rounds.

To earn access to this round simply collect three bonus symbols in the base game.

Drum features: jumbo, cash & frenzy
This is where this game earns its name. Throughout the base-game bonus-Symbols drop tokens into Two drums located above the reels. These tokens can Trigger any One of three unique variations of bonus spins either randomly or by collecting specific combinations using Symbols from reels Two-four.

Each variation starts with three bonus spins at level one.

  • Jumbo Drum Bonus: triggered by collecting tokens from reel four containing Two bonus-drum Symbols plus either a token representing jumbo drum feature or randomly through jumbo tokens; Jumbo Collect Symbols can become oversized blocks covering multiple positions on a single spin while counting towards leveling up for any remaining bonus levels.
  • Cash drum bonus: triggered by collecting tokens from reel four containing Two bonus-drum Symbols plus either token representing cash drum feature or randomly through cash tokens; cash collect Symbols carry random values ranging from 1x to 250x your bet which will be added-to any remaining levels’ prizes making levels grow-richer as you climb.
  • Drum Frenzy Bonus: the big kahuna; triggered by collecting both jumbo and cash tokens together from reel four containing Two-bonus drums & single drum-frenzy symbol or by landing Two-bonus drums & single drum-frenzy symbol; drum frenzy combines jumbo and cash features – creating large oversized collect Symbols carrying random cash values – and make winning combinations occur more quickly than ever before.

When drum frenzy gets rolling things escalate fast and creates the only viable path to reach the maximum award amount of 5165x found within this game – essentially the max reward available via the Epic Strike Tower plus any additional cash collected along the way.

Win booster: is the extra money worth it?

Unfortunately, there is no bonus-buy option; however you can opt-in to utilize the Win Booster option in base-game mode by paying fifty-percent more-per-spin ($1 bet = $1.50) increasing your chances to receive bonus-Symbols as well as activating bonuses during base-game playtime.

Should you enable it? Honestly, my answer is yes-if you are specifically searching for features and your budget allows for a higher bet rate per spin. Otherwise, I recommend disabling win-booster for extended periods of time as I personally prefer longer sessions without enabling it.

The Slot RTP Volatility and Max Win – A Read Between the Lines

Most reviews overlook some important aspects; and they matter. By default, RTP is 96.05% – a bit above the current average RTP of modern slots. However, there are four RTP options available to casinos: 96.05%, 94.07%, 92.07%, and 86.83%. The latter is a much lower RTP. After thousands of spins, the difference between the two RTP levels is substantial. On a per unit basis, the lower RTP is about ten times less efficient. How does someone find out which RTP their slot is using? Go to the game’s information page or rules section at your casino and click on “Info” or “Rules“. There is a way to find this out, and it takes less than ten seconds.

I would strongly suggest you do this prior to making a deposit. You may see a couple of figures when searching online. Some websites have listed the RTP as 96.95% (which appears to be a typographical error) and the maximum win as approximately 5000x. In the actual documentation for the game, the maximum win is set at 5165x. The description of medium volatility is as follows: Think of it as the middle ground. There won’t be lengthy periods of time without wins such as seen in high volatility slots. Nor will you likely see 20,000x screenshots as you often do in slots classified as high volatility. Due to both the medium volatility and the thirty-three percent frequency of bonus rounds, sessions appear to be relatively even. Most of my one-hour session was very flat until a cash-drum bonus was triggered and I ended up winning.

Some practical tips based upon my experiences:

  • These do not affect the math behind the slot. None of them can overcome the house edge. These simply help create a better experience during play.
  • Check which RTP version you are playing before you begin. I cannot stress this enough.
  • Play the free demo before betting money. The bonus mechanism takes a little time to grasp, and learning it with virtual money is far preferable to wasting your own money learning it.
  • Bet size should allow for a prolonged session. For a medium volatile slot, a good bankroll for a long session will provide sufficient opportunities for each feature to occur.
  • Keep track of how many drum tokens you’ve collected. While this does not change your odds, seeing how near a Random Drum Feature is occurring may enhance enjoyment of the basic game.
  • Decide if you want to use the Win Booster before starting your session, rather than mid-session.
  • Establish a stop-loss amount and adhere to it. Leprechauns are notorious for their inability to freely hand out gold, and slots are designed to eventually win in the long run.

Pros and Cons

I enjoyed

  • There are multiple paths toward getting a bonus in this slot, thus the basic game is never dull
  • At 5,165x, this is generous for a medium-volatility slot
  • Bonus Spins offer an obvious progression of levels as well as excitement
  • Each spin provides frequent hits that move your account balance
  • Every wild symbol encountered during play seems exciting due to the Tower Bonus
  • The slot plays well on mobile devices

I didn’t enjoy

  • Unless you have played 12 Masks of
  • Fire Drum Frenzy, there isn’t much new in terms of mechanics if you play 12 Pots of Gold Drum Frenzy
  • Newcomers to Gameburger may initially be overwhelmed by all of the various features of this slot
  • Low RTP versions are available (i.e., 86.83%), therefore you must check
  • Only average visuals and animations were used
  • Not available directly, there is no bonus buy for players who prefer to purchase a bonus.

Similar Games – If You Enjoyed This Slot

Gameburger Studios has developed several slot machines related to this title. First, consider 9 Pots of Gold for a more straightforward, yet punchy Epic Strike design. Next, consider 12 Pots of Gold Drums to see where this slot originated from. Additionally, 12 Masks of Fire Drum Frenzy utilizes the same game engine with an Aztec-inspired fire design. Finally, Hyper Strike Diamond Drum Frenzy offers a more flashy, gem-based take on this style.

If you are specifically interested in Irish themes, consider the following titles: Rainbow Riches Deluxe from Light & Wonder is a classic example; Lucky Lady Leprechaun by Reel Play is a quality modern choice; and Irish Crown from Pragmatic Play is another title with a similar 5,000x ceiling. If you’re looking for more cash collect-prize ladder type gaming outside of leprechaun-themed slots, consider 40 Lucky Wilds Hot from Amusnet.

Final Thoughts: Is it Worth Playing?

This is where I stand after all of those spins. All things considered, 12 Pots of Gold Drum Frenzy is a pleasant and well-designed slot machine that knows exactly what it wants to be. It doesn’t attempt to break any new ground. It takes a proven method that has been working for years, adds additional mechanisms, lowers its volatility and raises its ceiling and wraps everything in an Irish-themed package. If you are new to Gameburger Studios’ games, I believe you will appreciate this title greatly.

The Epic Strike Tower remains one of the greatest satisfaction-providing base-game features we’ve ever tested, and the progressive nature of the Bonus Spins creates an element of excitement in every round. If you have previously spent countless hours playing 12 Masks of Fire Drum Frenzy, though, you’ll recognize every step along the way (and possibly even develop a feeling of déja vue). Therefore, my suggestion would be to test this game in free mode for a minimum period of 100 spins and determine if the leprechaun drummers will get your feet tapping. Come back and let me know in the comments: Did you achieve Level 8? And did Drum Frenzy provide excitement for you similar to that experienced by me?
